Understanding the UK's carbon footprint

What can we do to reduce the carbon footprint?

Building Challenge

In teams, using a map and key, the children collect cards with pictures of building materials (choosing what they would life for their house)  They then transfer them to a house picture, placing the small cards in the correct place.  Discuss what they choose and why.  What is the best environment.

Jen's Game

Looking at global weather conditions, the children are divided into groups, living on five islands.  As the weather chances on each island, the children can choose to move.  Will they all end up on one island?  This could cause overcrowding.

Habitat Trail

Each child is given a badge with the name of a creature that lives at Thorham.  In teams they visit five different habitats, find where their creature lives and how it would survive (or not!) in unseasonal weather conditions.

Alternative Energy Sources

Using kits, we look at alternative energy sources; wind and solar power.

Other small activities may be added depending on time available.
